PET packaging in the Pharmaceutical industry

At OBECK, we have dedicated our time to ensuring we understand the pharmaceutical industry and its packaging needs. Whether it be a solid or liquid application, preserving the stability, safety and quality of products are essential requirements for any pharmaceutical packaging.

Amongst others, we have ensured that all of our PET packaging can be produced in a cleanroom with ISO class 7 on request. This guarantees a safe production and protection of medicines and special health supplements and ensures we meet all industry standards.

With our large range in house designed, developed and produced PET packaging with matching closures, we offer a great range of choice for pharmaceutical packaging requirements. Alongside this, we also have the ability to collaborate with our pharma customers to design and produce custom made PET packaging which complies with pharmaceutical specifications.

A packaging manufacturer you can trust

Our passion for quality packaging is reflected throughout the entire production process. For design and product development, we use modern 3D CAD/CAM software. In production, we utilize a high-end machine park, the latest injection moulding methods and automated packaging techniques. And, as explained above, we have our cleanroom for special pharmaceutical products.

Some highlights:

  • Large range of PET packaging available in standard colours clear, white and amber

  • On request, our products can be gamma-sterilised by an external party

Quality assurance in Pharma

We carry out numerous checks to ensure our packaging achieves the highest possible quality control. From inspecting incoming goods to analysing the finished product, workflow certification is based on annual audits according to FSSC 22000. By recording steps and monitoring the process, traceability is assured time after time.

Density and stability are steadily monitored by mechanical checking as well as random sampling by our qualified staff. Our ‘Brickpacks’ protects products from environmental influences. For raw materials, the masterbatch processed by OBECK is tested by the supplier as well as an accredited laboratory to comply with the European pharmacopeia, edition 8, §3.1.15.

Prescribing the perfect packaging for OTC and Pharmacies

Lightweight, tough, highly versatile, PET is the perfect material for pharmaceutical packaging. PET weighs less and requires less energy than glass – reducing our overall carbon footprint. PET is 100% recyclable, less likely to break and creates an effective oxygen barrier to protect your product inside.

With an extensive portfolio and custom options also available, we are able to create jars and bottles of all shapes and sizes from PET or approved pharmaceutical PET material:

Child Resistant packaging

Since the intake of large amounts of certain prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, supplements and medical cannabis can be potentially harmful to children, ensuring our packaging safely secures these substances is a significant concern. It not only protects consumers, but also protects the image of the brand.

All child-resistant closures (CRC) are tested to meet the requirements of the ISO 8317:2015 standard. OBECK can offer the full child-safe packaging solution when it comes to PET jars and bottles. Reclosable child-resistant closures include press-turned and squeeze-turned lock mechanisms.

Making OTC products stand out on the shelf

Primary packaging refers to the packaging that comes into direct contact with the product itself and is home to the branding that the customer first sees. In addition, the PET packaging serves as the business card of a brand. Resultantly, presentation is a key factor for over-the-counter (OTC) brands.

OTC products, like vitamins and dietary supplements, can be purchased without a prescription at various retail outlets and web shops. Driven by a growing awareness and demand for food supplements the OTC business has grown following the global pandemic. With everyday lifestyles becoming busier, more people are relying on complementary supplements to manage their symptoms and well-being without having to seek medical treatment.
